Listen, Act, and Transform
My name is Lori Schuerman and I live in Northeastern Wisconsin with my husband and a fun toy Australian Shepherd who experience the adventures of life with me. We have four adult children and seven delightful grandchildren. I love to travel and take the opportunity as often as possible as my family lives throughout the world.
I have been in healthcare for nearly all my adult life, first in clinical laboratory science, and the last 9 as a nurse, working both in inpatient psychiatric care and hospice. I earned my BSN at Bellin College and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Idaho State University. I started working as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) in 2020.
As a PMHNP, I seek to develop trusting and therapeutic relationships with my clients by completing thorough psychiatric evaluations, providing client-centered care and holistic treatment plans based on evidence-based guidelines. I provide appropriate education to help clients understand their mental health condition and the related medications and treatment options leading to healing and wholeness of body, mind and spirit.
Once an evaluation is completed, I recommend a course of action. I work hard to understand where people are currently at and offer vision for what is possible to be their best selves. We will discuss if medication is needed and how it may be prescribed, as well as exploring the benefit of using evidence-based supplements. Evidence-based practice shows that various forms of psychotherapy help clients "look at things differently", change behaviors, and improve emotional regulation. After the first visit you will then be seen intermittently to monitor your progress and success in managing your mental health concerns.
I evaluate people with many types of mental health concerns. I have experience with the management of depression, anxiety and panic, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, and other types of mental illness. I also offer biblical faith-based counseling for those clients desiring to incorporate their Christian faith in the therapeutic process.
Pharmacogenomics Therapy (PGT)
Pharmacogenomics is the study of how a person’s genetic makeup affects response to medication. It aims to develop a strategy to optimize drug therapies. The patient’s genotype is used to try to maximize drug efficacy while minimizing adverse drug effects and drug-drug interactions. If you decide to have PGT, I can painlessly collect the sample in the office. Having this information greatly reduces trial and error periods when trying to select a medication for pharmacotherapy. The Benefits of PGT are clear:
*Improved patient outcomes when initiating drug regimens
*Reduced risk of adverse drug events *Reduced risk of harmful drug-drug interactions
If you think PGT is for you, please contact me for more information.
